Simply biology

What we do

We make cells that simplify your science

Did you know that as much as 60% of the physical inputs to the global economy today could be produced biologically?

This includes a multitude of different areas e.g. therapeutical drugs, alternative proteins, enzymes, commodity chemicals or fuels. To enable more sustainable solutions, the way to develop them must be as simple as possible – and we have the solution.

At the very beginning of all these processes is a cell.

Imagine you could simply skip all recombinant DNA work and proceed right to the product, to the screening of your library or the verification of your experiment.

Occam Plug&Play enables this. Our high-producing cell lines – already now available – is able to produce at high titers and tolerate toxic gene expression stress and will soon be able to integrate any gene of interest you provide in a single step. This significantly reduces the hands-on time and the cost of your R&D

Tailoring the evolution of BL21(DE3) uncovers a key role for RNA stability in gene expression toxicity

Communications Biology, 12 August 2021

Gene expression toxicity is an important biological phenomenon and a major bottleneck in biotechnology. Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) is the most popular choice for recombinant protein production, and various derivatives have been evolved or engineered to facilitate improved yield and tolerance to toxic genes...
